The films’ back stories are not of faith that is a given in these films. They are centered on family, of how family circle comes through in a different form of a perfect love.

If this all comes across as too cheesy or overly emotional for your liking, there are other forms of entertainment available to you. Sometimes, it’s not all of my cupper tea and I also appreciate the tactics and silliness of those people that were there at the heart of the matter making these.

It would probably not come as a surprise to people who follow the Christian music scene the primary audience for this film. This shows the background story of Christian singing star Rebecca St James and her brothers Joel and Luke Small bone, who is better known as Christian pop duo For King & Country. (As I did, the marketing such as the poster depicting this as” A For King and Country film” undermined it).

The small bone family narrative includes the father’s David (his own father played by Joel Small bone, a co-director of the movie) and Helen played by Daisy Betts and their six children. First we meet the family in 1991, David as a Christian concert promoter in Australia looking forward to making big by promoting Amy grant for her tour of Australia. He succeeds in doing so, in a time of economic recession, and the endeavor has put a strain on his family.

David tells Helen that their last chance is to shift the entire family to the States where he can promote himself as a Christian musician. So, the family loads their bags to move to the state of Tennessee for only to be let down as the musician returned to his former manager (Don Most) leaving David without a means to take care of the family. The family, however, led by Helen, struggles as they take various menial jobs and scrape things together, bringing in an assortment of dimes and dollars. They are also supported by David’s father, James (Terry O’Quinn) in Australia who is still supporting David and tells him that “families aren’t in the way, they are the way”.

The family is helped by a couple they meet at Jed’s church. Jed is a songwriter in Nashville and is married to Kay (Candace Cameron Bure). The Small bones appreciate their charity but David, after some time, starts to feel embarrassed and annoyed due to the continued generosity of the two.

By an act of fate, the Small bones also come into contact with the record producer Eddie DeGarmo,” who happens to be the Australian promoter who sponsored David former. I see what he is doing, he has a family to feed and he is about to hustle. DeGarmo is also made aware, thanks to a tip from Jed, that Small bone’s oldest daughter Rebecca Small bone, who plays Rebecca, has a soul stirring voice and may be destined for greatness.

The narrative culminates with Joel Small bone and his co-director Richard Ramsey and the writer of the synopsis bringing it together as a tribute to the union of Jose Lewis’s great outré family as they are known to have each other’s backs. In fact, Helen does have a significant burden she ranks me in terms of what everyone does around here, she’s the one, and it is Betts who she plays a sufficiently husky person and a no-nonsense character to get Second World War time families through.
