The story is equally angering as it is sympathetic. A love story about prison break out, Love on The Run is an 88-minute documentary available on Netflix. All it states is: ‘An Alabama corrections officer has an affair with a accused of murder and helps him escape.’ However, the many conflicts within this romantic love, corruption, abuse, foolishness, treachery and betrayal and in the end death, were deeper than what the premise suggested.
A large part of this fascinating story which was just released on the platform is set between 2020 and 2022. This provides an advantage that unlike most other films/ pseudo depictions in the genre that often reach back a few decades in history and struggle due to the absence of most illustrations, Jailbreak: Love on the Run has been able to gather significant fairly recent illustrations.
The 56 year old Vicky White was a devoted officer who worked at a correctional facility in Lauderdale County, Florence, Alabama. Her job is something a lot of people would consider hard, punishing criminals that include thefts all the way to people given the death sentence.
Vicky wasn’t just admired by her colleagues, the kind Micky or Micky and the rest of the crew–she was even looked up to, respected I say, by the criminals in the house, many growing up to her as their mother or sister!
Until Casey White, Casey White, the documentary establishes from the very outset, bears no relation to Vicky White and there’s no intrigue to be had about that until later. Imprisoned for 70 years due to a bunch of other crimes, who in the law enforcement circles was seen as a soda pop demanding barbarian and a chronic seducer, Casey was able to penetrate through Vicky’s formidable defenses and become her man. For nearly two and a half years, the ‘couple’ sustains their ‘relationship’ via phone sex with even the ‘facility’ experiencing some on-site intercourse without any notice–what a performance you guys are giving. Y’all on a whole different level of that regardless of the obvious age gap–Casey is Vicky’s much younger and much more than Vicky can be that willing! to risk her own life and image in order to rearrange them both.
The plan does not pan out the way they desired and after a fevered chase, the two are further caught, with one of them choosing to take their life than to live behind bars for the rest of their life.
Jailbreak, more than anything else, revolves around a woman and her inability to be in a relationship which results in her trying to go after a man who seems to take her on a roller coaster of emotions. The film received mixed responses from its viewers with some claiming Casey schemed from the very beginning to get rid of Vicky while others were disgusted by the notion that it was pure love as everyone desired. It is a crazy story that leaves people baffled at a law enforcement’s decision but oddly also shows how he too wants love from someone. In both circumstances, as the title suggests, Jailbreak results in separation.
