One genre I feel there is no dearth of are the Rom-Coms, and in fact, at times it feels like there is too much of them. They seem to follow the same model and finish up the same way more or less. But every so often, we come across one that doesn’t make us cringe and is the opposite of what we’ve come to expect. That’s what it was like for me while watching Passionflix’s newest addition, Wallbanger.
Wallbanger, which is based on a book by Alice Clayton and directed by Tosca Musk, tells the story of Caroline (Kelli Berglund), a single interior designer who, after moving into what appears to be a fancy apartment, is in for the rude shock of being constantly disturbed by her neighbor, the wallbanger Simon (Amadeus Serafini). The rudest and most intrusive Simon is avoidably called ‘WallBanger’ because of the vile act Caroline, the now desperate woman, is pushed to perform, banging her head on the wall that separates their soul-soothing chambers.
Caroline attempts to scavenge for some information about her ill-mannered neighbor but is let down only to see him say farewell to his harem of women. All Caroline knows is he has restrained her and after bruising her ego during an attempt to have fun at home with herself, she looses it and stands at Simon’s house ready to punch him in the face. She becomes known as pink nightie girl and Simon, well you remember his.
As Caroline confronts Jillian (Roselyn Sanchez), who lived in the apartment before subletting it to Caroline’s boss, and Simon had a party where they kissed, things heat up. Caroline and Simon decide to stop quarrelling after that kiss.
Just like any other enemy turned lover, there is usually a constant question of their conflicting feelings. However, as Caroline and Simon spent more time together, they started figuring out they are not that different after all. At this point, Caroline keeps thinking she’s overestimated Simon. The more she comes close to him, the more she understands the women he has got intimate with. That was probably one of the most heart-pounding things that I liked. Even though Simon was physically involved with the women, it was still about establishing some type of bond. He did not act baity or over-exaggerate his relationships. He appeared caring about the women, and whenever Caroline made an inappropriate comment about the women, he stood up for them.
Caroline how was Caroline Simon Wallbanger instantly even though they liked each other, what what I admired was how the authors built their relationship throughout the course of the book. From the start there was great tension and anticipation, something which greatly assisted the story. Their playful sparing was enjoyable to watch as there was also great chemistry between the actors Berglund and Serafini. Grab the exit, and pour ice-cold water down. One is a dramatic bundle of joy who leaves a trail of sparks while the other is a goes all out person, everyone is charming in their own way. They both managed to nail the sweet scenes as well as the part of the quarreling beautifully.
As soon as Simon and Caroline made up their minds to be a serious couple, she accompanied him to Spain where he was on a photoshoot. This time they felt even more comfortable with one another and their intimacy progressed to the next level. Sadly, it was in this instance where Caroline’s expectations were not met.
Finding “The Big O” has become a challenge for Caroline yet again. It’s one thing after having an awful one night stand bored and never enjoying the pleasure of feeling it again. Caroline believed that it would come back up when she finally had a boyfriend who she liked, however, it is not that straight forward. Perhaps, that was one of the factors that I enjoyed about this narrative. Not Caroline’s “he had a small, beautiful penis” kind of romance either, just Caroline and Simon popping the question–I am love, help me find my “big O” Caroline, I am looking forward Simon. That was a plot twist because in most romance novels I have been reading, a woman has problems with intimacy and, the next man in her life rescues her and everything is good and perfect in love world. I also really liked how Simon and Caroline literally discussed what happened and it came to a point where he was very respectful of her needs and that’s not all about him at all.
Wallbanger is a feel-good Rom-Com that hits all the right beats (No pun intended). There is a good mix in this film. We get to see some unplanned tandems of Caroline with Simon’s friends like Sophia (Abbey May), Mimi (Cathy Ang), Neil (Cedrick Cooper), and Ryan (Colin Ford). There’s a little chaos as well courtesy of Caroline’s pet cat Clive. And quite a number of pastries which by the way made me hungry. There’s even a tidbit of fantasy that is cute and that is all I have to say. You will have to watch the movie to understand where I am coming from. All in all, I would have to say Wallbanger did not let me down. This is a movie that will surely be on the top list of any Rom-Com fan.
