Tyler Perry’s latest flick “Divorce in the Black” premiered on Prime Video a week ago starring Meagan Good as Ava and Cory Hardrict as Dallas. This is a tear-jerking romantic film which is definitely an engaging watch. This film is a romance thriller which demonstrates what is popularly referred to as emotional abusive relationship.
The focus of this film is on the marriage between Ava and Dallas and how it has become toxic and damaging to Ava in particular. It begins when Dallas loses his brother and this prompts Avas’ parents who are of course devout church people to arrange his funeral in a church. It must be stated that the way the story starts off in the church was filled with an aggressive scene where Avas’ relatives had it out with Dallas’s family. This is the story of how Ava’s spouse abused her and was at one point the main reason why she spoke of divorcing Dallas.
Good’s performance as Ava who so perfectly portrayed helplessness in the midst of loss and sorrow portrays some of the film’s best scenes and this proves to be one of the film’s highlights. It is inspiring to witness her growth; she leaves her abusive husband. The perfect obedient wife who is always obeying her husband commands is no more. Now, she is quite successful and all on her own.
A distinguishing factor of this motion picture is the story’s focus on the two families’ merging and the intermarital umbilicus where Dallas viciously mistreated Ava and how she coped with it. The film has encouraging messages for society such as no one should consider reconciliation in a violent matri-marital relationship and it depicts the winner in such cases. It illustrates what a woman is capable of when she has her family’s and friends’ encouragement.
Ava and Joseph Lee Anderson’s Benji had spectacular on-screen chemistry, which worked perfectly for their characters. The things he does in the movie the waiting and the protection. The story is about her, and he’s the one who stays faithful. It’s a key aspect of Ava’s story because that character brings an element of romance to this tense psychological thriller.
Another remarkable moment of the story was when her spouse stalked her and engaged with rage. Hardict’s display of violence as a husband was evenly handled. His odds of emotion were exclusively from burst rage to mental breakdown. This movie built up very well and the last moments of it were astonishing.
