Time Cut

Now streaming on Netflix, Hannah MacPherson’s ‘Time Cut’ was rumored as being produced earlier than “Totally Killer” which is a similar production. Yet, it is undeniable that this movie jumps through time in the latest freeze frame. But this film does not have to be paid for the time framing from a superior one. If that movie never existed, if time jump movies in general never existed, this movie would still be a bad movie. The comparisons do not help, but nothing could.

She has been quite good on ‘Outer Banks going so as far as believing that she could carry a movie. And yet, MacPherson has no idea how to portray her here, and the result is indeed a left out and a disappointing lead performance all together. While portraying the character of Lucy Field, Bailey encompasses a range of 2.5 expressions; worried, terrified, and panic stricken. She most usually appears as someone who wishes she were in a more interesting film.

Lucy is the year’s average teen by the year 2024. Ever since a young Summer (Antonia Gentry showing perhaps the only spark in this dull film) was brutally murdered, she has lived with her parents’ constant absence. It becomes clear that their grief caused them to replace their daughter Summer who died. They ended up turning to IVF for their new child which has some significance in the film. (Trust me, this will be important later).

Not because she’s looking for a time travel companion, but as the story progresses, Lucy witnessed her sister get murdered, and she journeys back to the moments leading to the murder. The issue it’s the drawn out what have we learnt from Back to the Future’ arguments or the Time Toaster segment in The Simpsons if Summer is never killed, she’ll never have parents wanting to have Lucy. Would you want to go back to the past to save your sister, knowing that it would pose a risk to your existence .It’s A very explosive area for this movie to touch on, but neither MacPherson or co writer Michael Kennedy seem to be concerned about it.

In place, they formulate fictitious consequences that are not even executed, paving the way for one of the craziest conclusions I have seen, as everyone simply chuckles and enjoys themselves as though they are in a poorly produced By movie that cut mid filming of the re shoot.

Other viewers would never reach that particular conclusion. ‘Time Cut’ is what you would call a clean and ‘hit’ type movie as Lucy moves in time to 2003, the soundtrack includes the likes of Hilary Duff’s ‘So Yesterday’ and she marvels at the style at that time. It is the type of movie that fails to capture the viewer due to lack of creativity by the filmmakers as it does not have any logical twists or emotional attachments, such a waste of a concept. Griffin Gluck, who was great in his role in “American Vandal” (which I adored), doesn’t get the credit he deserves in this overly complicated plot while everyone else is forgettable. Actually, quite the opposite: some supporting characters are talented but appear disconnected and bored. Some directors and scriptwriters are so simple and standardized that the cast’s horrible delivery of lines is their fault for producing a subpar, interest less universe that has no direction.

What I kept writing down during the movie “Time Cut” was that it was “clunky.” Obviously, I am into stupid such concept horror films. I like how people tend to discover films like “Happy Death Day” every year. It was not time hopping, but the dumb “Freaky” was enjoyable. There is so much ‘fun’ in this where it seems all people do is play their role in a show. I looked forward to yet another mind bending time jump film, but with a twist. After watching this, I only wanted to get back my time.
