The Hopeful

Faith no longer has any meaning for William Miller. After escaping a brutal war in 1812, Miller starts to reason why God has given him life. In search of knowledge, he finds an astounding revelation–the end is certain. The Hopeful narrates the life of a man who has spread the message only once, that Jesus shall come back to claim what is his. While some take the circular argument as truth, most do not care about the niceties.

Movie review

One of his sermons profoundly impacts Ellen Harmon and she subsequently seeks to share this message. The sermon and its objective seemed simple as to do everything a Christian is expected to. New Christ followers emerged to take on the new vision, putting into motion the seeds of a fresh faith community- Seventh-day Adventist Church. As a result, The Hopeful is a compelling portrayal of a sincere people who have learned how to wait for Jesus in a way that transforms. Set in New England during the 19th century, this epic historical romance encourages all audiences to envision a different world from the old.

People are able to see what hope in a better world might be able to achieve.

This is one of those exciting movies where a father sits his kids down and proceeds to tell them a story. In this story, the father includes certain events during the time the children were not yet born.

The way people anticipated the Lord’s return on that particular day is intriguing. It is also interesting how disappointed and angry they became when the Lord did not return.

Many ‘backsliders’ came to the conclusion that the Lord was never returning because He didn’t return on the day they had called for.

Wr now meet the believers as they are called back to send the Lord’s message. This time around, no one call for a particular day as this includes people who advocate that church services be held on the 7th day of the week which is a Saturday.

And then this gathering is when Ellen Harmon began to have visions. This was not the case with some communities, including some of her family. She ended up marrying James White, a young man who was zealous about the expected return of the Lord. They continue to spread the Lord’s word. Despite bearing children, poverty, illness, and the loss of children, they do not waver in their faith.

This explains the Seventh Day Adventist Church establishment. Through Ellen’s visions, they define aspects of their faith. Alcohol, coffee and tea, are all out of the question. The return to ‘the diet of Eden’ is encouraged. Ms. Houston said, “Meat?”, “no”, only fruits, vegetables, and grains. Ellen’s husband’s sickness made Ellen assert that healthcare was a focus area of the church. They have opened up hospitals, and medical clinics in different countries across the globe. Today, the family of Advent Health is known as the largest Protestant non-profit organization in the United States of America.

The conclusive sentence of the father’s story says: ‘the bible itself states that it is our pressing duty to ensure that, Jesus’ good news and His up coming return for His people is spread in the four corners of the world., then He will return to take us home. Today is only the beginning.

At the end of the movie, the fragments of the film include the image of an actor and the man in whose image he played a role, and a phrase or two about them.

Ellen White worked on her eschatological essays, preached and traveled until her 87th age in May, 1915. Additionally, Ellen White has been officially registered amongst the 100 greatest USA America has ever produced by the Smithsonian Institute.

It was a delight to watch The Hopeful. It was interesting throughout. The Hopeful is a nice family movie that can be enjoyed by everyone. I would recommend The Hopeful regardless of whether you are an Adventist or not, if you are in search of a good Christian movie for entertainment.
