Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Video Games Style Movie Review There are cutscenes while the action takes place and while the characters change from one scene to another. Animation was very poor and even the fight scenes were unexciting. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a video games style movie except that rather than including video games it has the Sonic and Tails characters. This movie appeals more to young children. Jeff Fowler has previously directed video game movies where the lot was never important and humor provided the compensation.
Sonic 3 strikes me as a brutish gem that seamlessly combines modern kid aesthetics with neo-romanticism. It takes an unusual approach and the energy throughout the film is palpable. And despite everything that has been said, the film is not stupid at all. To make it clear, the best way to describe it is as a well executed fusion parody of the best elements of games from the Sonic franchise. All of this is packaged in an adventurous plot and is complemented with spectacular visuals that can catch even adult viewers.
The movie first starts with a back story which is dated around fifty years in the past. The main character of the movie is Ben Schwartz as Sonic, who is the Sega mascot. The movie features a lot of anthropomorphic characters. For the movie, they did introduce a couple of newer characters. One, in particular, is a government military program called Shadow, his character seeks enemies and fights them. His role is as Sonic’s counterpart to revenge and the character build is amazing. For some reason, you do not like him but the character Keanu Reeves brings a unique aspect to Shadow.
It’s hard not to praise Carrey’s decision to divide his performance between two different characters. He excels as both Doctor Ivo Robotnik, an evil engineer who hasley taken control of the series, and Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Ivo. The latter is a great aged version of himself with an endlessly misaligned Kagasaba mustache. But, the former’s variation of a meaner, cross married version of Ivo. Typically pairs like these are common in mainstream movies; veteran Carrey always intrigues us with this unique conflict. The struggle between the two Robotniks defines the show’s conflict to a tipping point; here are two Afghanistan sailing on their sheer metropolitans, divided through dualism while the poor Ivo considers himself as their betrothed. Carrey’s profound sarcasm enters this family bond at unlikely moments; imagine listening to Ivo Oh, look a nano-fist and replying with I have not seen one of those since I physically cringed watching Green Lantern in 2011, imagine such a sibling rivalry.
This time around it allows plenty of screen time for the Master Emerald, the Tails which the fox, previously ascended who presumably, were absent in the last Sonic film for which Knuckles and the echidna have also fair dodgers Idris Elba.
Yet the true talent of this film is the ability to combine lavish special effects with intricate detailed storytelling, which Fowler accomplished.
