Movie Review:

This is an amazing love story that leaves sorrow, heals hearts, and in the end hope puts a smile on our face. One would be hard pressed to resist the rhythm of the plot, the authentic characters and the delightful, visually appealing images, or cinematography.

I tend to watch the movie after reading a book. Yeah, I know that’s ironic saying so because I normally don’t. Since I’m a fan of Karen Kingsbury’s work, I had a feeling that this particular movie was going to be good. And after seeing the trailer, I was really excited to see the film. The movie started and I was sold.

In this fairly typical love story, Dawson (Jake Allyn), an architect from Birmingham, is on the verge of transforming his friendship with London (Sarah Fisher) into something more. But, fate interrupts Lang that is very vivid, as London dies from a tragic accident. Moreover, it also affects both London’s and his parents due to the pain they experience together in which their faith gets tested. After all, how can someone in a position where he brings so much joy to so many people be lost so quickly?

Dawson and London’s parents share this strong and beautiful connection for years and it’s Dason that gets to learn of a big secret. London was conceived through In-vitro fertilization, and she may have a brother or sister somewhere in the world. This motivates Dawson to go look for the sibling, and hopefully, this will allow them all to finally find some comfort and closure.

Dawson’s quick search for Andi Allen (Sarah Fisher) relentlessly leads him to making dozens of calls. Andi works as a zoo keeper in Nashville and had never suspected that she was born with the help of a performant mother. She is working when Dawson comes to her. He does not know that she was absolutely clueless and decided to just ignore everything and go back to Birmingham. Andi, on the other hand, tries to bother her parents by speaking about the issue, assuming it to be an odd occurrence and when she sees them in shock, she knew she was right! She starts feeling lost and starts imagining herself to be somebody she is actually not. She even decides to fly to Birmingham to meet Dawson in the hope that he could tell her more about her biological parents, Larry and Louise Quinn.

Andi, who has finally found her parents, enters to meets them for the first time and it is Quinn’s who notice the similarities first! They talk, eat, laugh and even sing with each other. It could have been embarrassing but there was great chemistry as well. She is still in pain because of the way her family has been treating her for all this time, so she doesn’t feel like talking to anyone from that side.

An unexpected friendship is shown to bloom between Dawson and Andi. They are able to communicate warmly and frankly and that is wonderful to observe .

What struck me is the idea of the tale that irrespective of people’s predicaments, Jehovah will see them through the storms of life. The Quinn’s, and even Dawson, could have comfortably pointed a finger to God regarding the loads of grief and disappointment they pass through the valleys of tears. Yet faith and belief are a constant part of them. The romance between Dawson and Andi was mesmerizing. It illustrated the essence of love excellently. Love was the one that brought the light in the midst of the darkness. The fitting music accentuated the critical moments. I was amazed about moments that the visuals actually took place. The beauty of Nature in this film simply had no limits, from the beach and the bush to the wildlife at the zoo. Absolutely wondrous. Someone Like You is a film that is very powerful and conveys a positive message. It is the kind of film that you would actually watch over and over again and still not tire of it because something new always crops up.
