Our Church Thinks We’re Dating

This is the Simulation Project We Engage With our Religion Says: No, You May Not Date in Church. It’s a film with religious elements of Christianity family life, romance, and humor directed by Tim Nolte with the script from both Tim Nolte and Maggie Hartman’s. With a jolly and celebrative spirit, the film presents a different narrative on relations, intimacy, and finding the right partner. It features Mark Christopher Lawrence, Ashley Larae, and Burke Brown, while Megan Alexander and Lorraine May Isbell are among the additional performing cast. It is a charming love story that looks at the Christmas season in a new light and expands the traditional scope of holiday romcoms.

In the web series Our Church Thinks We’re Dating, the protagonist, Jess, is the daughter of the pastor who is fed up with her father playing matchmaker all the time. To become her own person, she hatches an idea to fake date her best friend, Alex. But the fake relationship has its own repercussions, especially when it distracts from the wedding of their mutual friend Rachel which is about to take place. The story proceeds with a sequence of events throughout which Jess and Alex’s growing intense relationship, which was staged against their friendship, develops a desire for each other right as Christmas arrives. In between the disturbances, the viewers get to watch sweet friendship, laughter and some drama too.

Our Church Thinks We’re Dating develops from the story about a Pastor’s daughter Jess who seems to be the head of the young singles group at the church. Her delight is to organize a mission or a service with her friends from the young singles group including her flatwater Rachel and also single Alex who has been attracted to her for quite some time now. However, as people start to pair, Jess starts getting limited friends.

The summer was filled with wedding after wedding and the last one in the season was that of Rachel Summers and her husband to be, Samuel Summers due to which Jess and Alex found themselves the last single people in their church. Jess’s father, named Pastor T, tries to assist Jess in finding a partner the very same way men are called to find women for paid dates but it does not help and rather annoys Jess even more than it normally does.

Jess does not have the best of luck as Rachel and Sam exchanging vows lead to her annual Christmas charity event being overshadowed. To make matters worse, everyone decides to go to the mountains for the couple’s wedding. Upon reaching the mountain resort, Pastor has once again embarrassed Jess by introducing her to another bachelor amateur athlete Loren who is apparently buff all over.

Other than that, Alex has a good chemistry with Samuel’s sister, Danielle. But before anything else could blossom, Jess throws out that she is dating Alex and all in a frantic effort to get her dad off her back. Owing to his romance and long feelings of nostalgia for Jess, Alex relents but only if they go “full Romcom”.

With Jess’s apparent reluctance, Alex draws up a list of romantic movie cliches, which O’Connell is to act out. Obsessive emulating of living the characters and the story isn’t allowed as well. When did they commence their romantic relationship? Why haven’t they kissed yet? The concern regarding Jess’ romantic declaration animates the Wedding like the rest went against to this couple.

Once again, Rachel’s wedding is not so much the center of attention as the attention towards the couple craves even more. However more dangerous is the fact that, while Jess and Alex had always been friends adding flat chemistry, Rachel consciously starts to doubt her relationship with Sam.

The events of Our Church Thinks We’re Dating’s weekend, constantly develops strong new feelings, addresses the need for relationships sanity, exhausts all participants, but corresponds with various perspectives on the importance and difficulty of relationships in its audience.
