
Story: In a story of friendship, legacy, and destiny, the compassionate mandrill Rafiki (voice of John Kani) tells Taka (voice of Kelvin Harrison Jr) about Mufasa’s (voice of Aaron Pierre) journey as a king starting from being a cub’s journey of becoming an orphan.
Lion King released in 1994 is the best-animated movie containing remarkable storytelling, unbeatable music, and excellent voice acting. After the live-action movie released in 2019, Barry Jenkins in addition Jeff Nathanson in pair prepared a prequel movie starting from scratch. the sequel delves into Mufasa’s origin as the ruler of the Pride Lands, and his fight against Simba’s evil uncle Scar was Vice versa voiced by Jeremy Irons which also debuted in the last movie.
The cinematography of the movie was extraordinary employing CGI to achieve breathtaking visuals. emblems and other intricacies exposed riveting moments. The character of Mufasa was indeed the main focus but Scar was also explored to give a reason for his suspicious name and presence. Mufasa the Lion King visually was indeed stunning and mesmerizing as the landscapes in the movie varied from blizzards to breathtaking views of the cub worlds.
The ominous transition of Taka into Scar is another reason why their storyline did not evolve spanning across themes of brotherhood, leadership, legacy, and unity alongside Mufasa. Alongside the shift, this time a plot twist emerges Taka and X being the former gist. However, the backstory did not breathe life into their rivalry and instead felt quite devoid of motivation.
The only elements which rendered the original movie intriguing were undoubtedly Lin-Manuel’s score, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Hakuna Matuta, and Circle of Life. But the movie’s aim remains to be grand, the script however did not deliver despite the steaming visuals they provided. The movie did not deliver the ambiance of a son on their father’s grave which is the main image a lion conveys.
The savage portrayal of Mufasa effortlessly encapsulating the mix of meekness and bravery was only achieved by Aaron Pierre, alongside him, Kelvin Harrison Jr. successfully depicted Taka and Scar’s growing animosity from being a sibling to spoiled and insecure to ruthless and self-conscious. Equally commendable was Mads Mikkelsen’s anger at the main antagonist leader of the pie which is outsiders while Seth Rogen and Billy ejaculated hysterics with their interaction.
If interesting CGI, amazing aesthetics, and enthralling stories appeal to you, then Mufasa: The Lion King is one movie you wouldn’t want to miss. This movie would surely serve as a great watch, especially if viewed in a theater setting.
