Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two

The second part establishes the background for part three which is the climax and more interesting of the whole movie. The movie is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jim Krieg and also produced by Jim Krieg, Kimberly S. Moreau and other executive producers such as Butch Lukic, Sam Register and Michael E. Uslan.

Part two builds the conflict and reveals new aspects of characters engaging the audience. Even though Psycho Pirate is often mentioned in this movie there are several characters where the audience’s empathy for them grows a lot in this part. Supergirl also plays an important role in the story and these all are the cliffhangers for the third part of the story which is indeed the most exciting X.

In sum, while ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Two‘ does have its fair share of enjoyable moments, it can be said that apart from the enjoyment of the film, there is quite a substantial part of the film that seems a bit divergent from the comic book adaptation–there are extraneous scenes added for dramatic effect and minor changes made to some of the scenes for amusement and continuity within the film. One would not anticipate it being exactly word-for-word in the graphic novel format, but seeing as how the entire narrative can only be covered in three segments–a time frame that diminishes any feelings of the narrative being bloated or excessive.

Nevertheless, we do understand a lot about Psycho Pirate and his character. Some of the viewers may not know him and his powers fully, and this was a good but rather bleak introduction and origin story to him. Certainly, the film version of the character’s backstory has been modified compared to the comic series, but this is an alteration that is appreciated because it embroiders the character further. What I appreciate the most in the film adaptions is the way they extend time for the orientation of a character. Considering that I adore the comics, I thought that unless you’re well-versed in them prior, there’s not much empathy there. Moreover, several of the character role changes from comics to film make this story so different from the original that we loved for a whole different reason. And it’s not a bad way.

It is easy to see that there is a lot of talent working behind the voices as they simply brought the characters to life with a brilliant touch. In this case, I must say that Meg Donnelly who voices Supergirl and Geoffrey Arend who vices Psycho Pirate are the standouts bringing the emotion to the film.

Even though there are long explanations of the plots and events which for this arc in the story, well, make sense, there are great stints of action where the heroes and the villains battle with each other along the shadows, which I must say are great as it goes well with the animation. In these scenes, Kevin Riepl’s score works almost flawlessly to develop the emotions and the tension, and it is almost possible to understand what is going on. For me personally, some of the issues are just not given enough credit. Because it seems that it improves critical moments.

This story too has an emphasis on Supergirl which I liked, her purity, her righteousness is put to the test here because we are reminded of everything she has had to go through to get to this particular point. The most notable alterations to her narrative are the locations in which the story occurs as well as the character she plays in this particular film. There is no need to reveal what those changes are but they are sufficient to elicit emotional effect.

‘Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Two’ is entertaining although quite a lot of the time is utilized for providing more depth to the actors. In some ways it feels as if some of the action and wow factor of the comic book series has been spread too thin, but when it does peak I actually found myself grinning at a few of the combat scenes. For me, much of the movie did not seem like Crisis, but for the time being I do like this reworked version of the conflict that we are currently focusing on.

There’s a preview towards the end as to what’s to come as our heroes battle the anti-monitor and that alone is enough to get me hyped for the last part of the movie series. It’s going to be a chaotic, fanatical and action-fuelled emotional ride!
