His & Hers

Some actors manage to be charming and lovable regardless of the role, and Brennan Elliott and Lacey Chabert happen to be exactly those actors. You know how when they team up for a film, you are guaranteed to enjoy every minute, beaming with delight throughout. They both feature in His & Hers, the Hallmark Channel’s first Fall Into Love movie for the 2024 season. Two lawyers in the same firm, married, and idiotic in love. And I mean, it is one of the ‘can’t eat, can’t sleep’ types of makes them in love and loves each other so much that the idea of love is so strong that it makes them want to pretend to be a scientist just so that one can try and figure out how they have such strong chemistry.

The two are at different firms, and it works. One’s a corporate lawyer and the other one’s a family lawyer. They go on as many day vacations as the number of years they have been together, let’s say there were seven years. Recently, they just past their seventh wedding anniversary where they took seven days off to celebrate. Oh, and they are annoying obnoxious amounts of ‘happy’.

The two of them are both assigned new cases. The new case in question is one in which they get separated. The divorce of two stars from a reality show. Mark (Elliott) and Dana (Chabert) are fully convinced that they will be able to resolve this matter. They are confident that they can reach a settlement with the couple and continue as if nothing ever happened. However, the couple will never settle. No matter the cost, they are determined that the other one will not have anything.

Though, I understand we are meant to focus on The Nobles and their story are the reality TV couple quite frankly, I wasn’t. It bored me, but that’s just me. I don’t always object to things being predictable, but when it came about in this instance, it was an obvious case of a staged divorce to promote the film. If I’d thought they were truly getting divorced, I would have been more interested. The trouble is I expected there to have been loads more. The Noble’s conflict was just boring. Do I know what I was looking for, Not at all. I also believe that the people of Mark and Dana and it is a good thing have been a little bit more than what I expected.

I was drawn more to understanding the test that the circumstances were putting Mark and Dana through. The two of them had basically nothing to hide from each other except being lawyers. That whole lawyer client privilege thing. There was tension but it was more on the low side. Mark and Dana are these two characters that make you believe in love.

The two are narrating what their life goals are and how ready they are for kids all while working the case. There are suggestions for it and there are suggestions against it. Having children can be quite daunting but they are not shy when it comes to discussing the advantages and disadvantages. I appreciated that the movie made no apologies for its honest explorations of how issues in a relationship may be tackled because it is perfectly okay to have a discussion. Discussing issues is essential.

The Nobles manage to have discussions placing so much of importance and drama around it that they can hawk their latest invention about an hour into the show called couples counseling. I’m not kidding, I thought I was going to break my ribs from rolling off the couch. I was even more amused when the assistant they chose to villainize as an antogonist, later came on the show herself and exposed them and some of their deepest secrets.

His & Hers was between chuckles and romance. The film is, however, still unable to shed off the Hallmark blanket. I think I would not have enjoyed the show nearly as much if it was not for its stars. I still anticipated more from it, but the way Elliott and Chabert own the movie made it more entertaining than I expected. They gave me moments to embrace.

One of the best things about this movie was that it had such two actors who can snap their fingers and no matter the movie they will be watched Brennan Elliott and Lacey Chabert. There is something special about their chemistry something rare. Their knack for comfort around each other allow them to play off each other as very few actors are able to do. So much has been said and written about their timing and how they are able to play off each other, astonishing, and something that many actors should pick up.

His & Hers contains every Positivity that Hallmark has to offer. It evoked laughter and I thought, all right, the comedy is on one sore.
