I mean, I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to AI in general, but if there’s one thing I support unconditionally it’s tacos. So, having said that, I’m slightly conflicted as to whether I’m on board with Matias’ idea in A Little Family Drama when it starts off showcasing the driveable taco restaurants he creates. And yes I say so as well, even after all of the truck erupts and starts shooting sauce in every direction. I mean, is that not a sight worth drooling over?
The culture meets a comedic angle quickly, in this film brought to life by Nadia Zoe’s heavy imagination. As embarking on that trip shows the Sepulveda family in the light of preparation for a family reunion, Cecilia stands out. She seems like she’s. a lot, let’s put it that way. With both sister and mother roles, you can sense the burden of trying to narrow the gap in the image of the family she has in her head. Perhaps it’s one of those things in my own family I have always been labeled the responsible person, and in other families, it’s easy enough to identify the unfortunate people who get stuck with this role. Of course, she can be strict, but she’s demanding too at times, right? Isn’t all that family business kind of hectic for her? All the time, I mean?
Matias’ character felt more distanced from me and that’s where I started to understand why Cecila was perhaps the way she was; because she had to babysit him at all times. Looks like the rest of the cast is warm and welcoming as well interrupting you from your own problems which is fun as I would have loved to be a part of the hilarious family.
Making a comedy is difficult because there are a lot of factors to consider and that may lead to overwriting or underwhelming the jokes. Too many jokes and it becomes cringe, too little and it is plain cheesy. There is also the situation that ‘what one laughs at, the other will not’ which is quite difficult to conquer; thus, it is not easy righting a Comedy, because, in reality, it is extraordinarily difficult to get the right balance. Let’s take a look at this worked example: A Little Family Drama is bound to make you laugh before the opening scenes even start. however, after the movie set begins, the real laughter is a long time coming as there is a storyline and characters that need to be properly fleshed out first.
Zoe, one of the authors of ‘A Little Family Drama’ alongside Ramon Torres, does a decent job of propelling the plot forward, but it’s harder to identify if the jokes are going to land as much as they would have liked them to. Anselma, the character played by Alma Martinez, grabs a lot of the weight at the beginning, and while I would admit that she can do well on the material she is given being the patriarch of the family is sheer madness, we are probably more in the business of soft laughs than about to be rolling in the aisles, do you feel? Even though she portrays the character with great realism, it became apparent to me as ‘A Little Family Drama’ progressed that the plot is indeed heavily based on her character. Anselma has a stake in the infamous Tacomatic because Matias has coaxed her to buy it and although his intentions are honorable, he does have a penchant for destroying things. It does not require a detailed explanation, but of course, the family has concerns that there are mountains of unpaid invoices and the grandchildren instead of moving the family forward are dragging it back to their petty plays.
In a nutshell, the title bears the answer. I agree there are funny bits in the script but for me, “A Little Family Drama” has to do more with the dramatic aspects of the situation. It’s still a little, though, and not a lot it’s as if the movie is some type of a middle ground for the two parallel ends of its bi polar nature. I think that a synopsis of this film would read differently than a comedy, and I would like to emphasize the world so there’s that. Of course, expectations do play a huge part in the way any new information is taken in, and even so, I would still suggest Zoe think twice about the way she promotes this film, what takes the place of the comical side is a good amount of pleasingly funny, and very relatable, family enjoyment. As Cecilia will tell you, ” Things have been messed up for a long time. In the case of the Sepulveda family, we see that there is a great strength that cannot be easily destroyed but that there is also delicacy to the elements at stake.
Is it correct to say that the actual formula for “A Little Family Drama” is very similar to the one that made “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” such a hit? This is the style of family relations we are discussing and the cross-cultural way that “A Little Family Drama” utilizes to achieve its Comedy as we see this Mexican-American family attempting to become functional.
There is no indication that there will be inappropriate content in movies like A Little Family Drama because this is E for Everyone material. That comes with a certain amount of risk, though, and one does question if A Little Family Drama goes a bit too far in its effort to appeal to all at the same time. Other people are going to end up wanting a picture like this to do so much more than what it does or lambast it for playing it too safe. and rightly so, I would say. The other side of that coin is that A Little Family Drama will be able to reach more audiences since it is indeed nonoffensive, and thus can be shown just about anywhere.
When you push the bounds a little, and create a film that is more tempered, you might end up pleasing an insightful market, even if it might rub off some negatively. Rather than such a target, if you wish to engage in making a film that a shareholder could watch in between bank appointments, then I’m afraid several people would walk in being busy and there with little intention of active watching. Making a film is always what everyone wants, but such a detached approach seldom engages in the focused watching on which such making seeks to hinge.
Many people are commenting on the mushrooms that accompany the dishes in the film ‘A Little Family Drama.’ This comment is the potential to send the movie in a more comical direction, but the only problem is whether it will be sufficient after so much setup. At least we’re an hour in the movie before someone is ready to take a bite, and that doesn’t leave too much time to find out whether or not such mushrooms as there were in ‘A Little Family Drama’ will be able to save the situation. For you to find out for yourself, I’ll leave that information to you. However, I can confirm that this film never fails to be warm, welcoming, and absolutely charming. And I quote, For a film to bring joy to viewers, comedy doesn’t have to include nasty content, but to avoid that danger at all costs pushes you too far in the opposite direction, and then you are left with a harmless family picture or a gentle drama.
I guess I’m part of the younger generation that you all see in this film Honestly, when you said tripping balls I presumed it was near the end credits that would begin to roll, but it’s fairly obvious that there’s some sort of goal in mind or else everything would’ve already happened. With the context that’s been set at the end of this movie, it’s a pity that the last 30 minutes aren’t just as clean and straightforward, as one might think, which is precisely my point of contention. Rather, “A Little Family Drama” tends to remain too conservative and perhaps even to its own disadvantage.
There is no denying that A Little Family Drama is a Mexican movie, but it does neglect to tap deep into traditional Mexican art. Perhaps that is why I found it to be your quintessential, realistic slice of life movie you’ve watched time and time again. While there is nothing wrong with Mexico’s traditions not being imparted into this movie, it did certainly make it more mediocre than it had the potential to be, hence my rating of 3 stars out of 5. Everything from the captivating plot, realistic settings, and amazing cast, makes it a decent watch, but a single slot share isn’t enough for it to be deserving of anything more.
